Some days are a real blue collar
existence. Being a potter is a job. A really nice job.. but still a job. This morning I threw these 128 goblet tops, later this morning will come the stems and in the afternoon put the two together. Well, I have many miles left to travel... so keep the wheels spinning, make good pots and have a great day!!

Hey, Craig. I'm assuming by those tons of goblets that you sell a bunch of them. Who buys them? That's not a smartass question, I'm just curious. Not many people ask for them around here.
I'm curious how it is you assemble them. I assemble and trim mine together on the wheel.
When I saw you had an ORDER for 120 I was shocked...who orders that many goblets? and at what price? I sell at medieval and renaissance faires so I have a built in market for them, but outside of that market..they go slowly. I probably do about 200 a year in different sizes. I sell mostly mugs.
Hollis: Yeah I don't sell many out of my gallery. I wholesale them to corporations for there banquets. One ordered 3600 once. I usually get one or two days of heavy production in a week, it takes the pressure off the rest of the pots. I'm not sure whether that's good or not. I guess someday's it is.
Hello Charles: I throw the tops and then the stems.. then assemble them on the wheel. I don't do much of this sort of production anymore, but it is nice to have the skills to do it!
Thanks for the reply Craig. This is a link to a demo video I did for my students.

It usually takes me 1 to 4 minutes on each..which I thought was pretty quick, but if you are making over 100 in a day you must have a really fast method. I'd love to see it!
Hello Charles: I'll have to figure out a video camera and youtube.
Hi, Craig: Re your order of 3500 goblets ... yikes! Better you than me.
3600! mama mia... i throw too slow
I throw WAY, WAY slow too. Hope to see one of these finished.
Hey Jim, Amy: I think you'll agree that it's not about speed but your relationship with clay. Keep making those good pots!...
Wow 3600 goblets is insane! Big ups
Holy smack that's a lot of goblets.
